Ricoh Caplio GX8 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.42 (out of 10)
The Caplio GX8 is a technical marvel with superb adaptability, outstanding performance, some very useful features and good handling. For the price it offers more pixel power than almost anything else on the market, but there are other even more capable cameras available to the advanced user. You'll have to decide if it's really what you're looking for, but if it is then it won't disappoint.

The 8 megapixel Ricoh Caplio GX8 is a very good digital camera. The easy to use camera is capable of very good results, however you may have to work with the image(s) to get the best out of them - for example to remove noise, etc. The camera gives you a lot of control through manual settings, manual focus, ISO range, flash expansion, lens expansion, battery type etc. The macro mode is excellent, producing photos with good colour, excellent detail and extreme close-ups! This camera would make a very good camera for someone looking to produce detailed wide angle photos - the camera is also excellent value for money.

The Ricoh Caplio GX8 is a different digital camera. Different because of its design and different because of a number of unique features. The Ricoh Caplio GX8 is a digital compact camera with the shortest interval of release ever. It belongs to the cameras with the highest amount of pixels and it certainly is one of a few with the highest ISO setting. Besides that, the camera stands out because of its real wide angle and its remarkable continuous mode. It makes the Ricoh Caplio GX8 a great and astonishing camera, one that you have to like whether you want it or not!

"On paper at least the Ricoh Caplio GX8 looks like a very tempting prospect. The Ricoh GX8 is an 8 megapixel compact digital camera with a wide-angle 28-85mm lens, full creative control with Aperture Priority and Manual Exposure modes, minimal shutter lag and quick power-on, and an amazing macro mode that lets you get as close as 1cm from your subject. Other desirable features on the Ricoh Caplio GX8 include manual focus, a movable AF point, hotshoe for an external flashgun, bracketing of both white balance and exposure, and a full range of optional accessories. The good news doesn't stop there - all of this is available for less than £300. However, Ricoh cameras that I have reviewed in the past have always suffered from one fundamental problem - their image quality, which has mostly been on the poor side. So have Ricoh provided a level of image quality that matches the impressive feature list of the Caplio GX8"

Ricoh's Caplio GX8 is a slim and compact 8.2-Megapixel digital camera that commands one of the world's fastest shutter response time, super-close macro mode and a fast start-up time of 1.3 seconds. The wholly-black camera is quicker, lighter and even easier to use than its wide-angle lens predecessor, the Caplio GX, but only offers a 3x optical zoom lens. Nevertheless, it can easily slip into a jacket pocket, is a snap to use and produces excellent quality images. You'll struggle to find a camera in this price bracket that offers so much functionality or that produces such good images.
